This symbolic ornament honors the U.S. Capitol Police Force, who for more than two centuries have put their lives on the line to protect the Capitol, Congress, and the democracy they represent: from a single night watchman in 1800 to today's professional force of nearly 2,000 officers. The U.S. Capitol Historical Society pays tribute to these brave men and women for their courage. Most importantly, we pay tribute to them for their sacrifice.
